The Mars Bar slated for demolition - a hoax? Just like the email that on August 27th, Mars in best perihelic opposition since the days of the Neanderthals would be as large as a full moon? 

The skies were obscured by the clouds of Hurricane Irene, and I wouldn't have seen the spurious spectacle anyway. But this terrestrial Mars, observed from within a puddle with all sorts of orbital debris, appeared as spectacular to me as the planet above. Unfortunately, the news about the imminent demolition of this venerable neighborhood bar does not seem to be a hoax. The building has recently been vacated to make space for another glass tower.
