2ND TAKE - 2ND FLIGHTS

(1977 , 5:41’, b/w, 1/2 inch reel to reel))

2ND Take – 2ND Flights comprises six static tableaux, each roughly one minute long, showing Daedalus and Ikarus frozen in mid-air hovering above the sea. The figures are Xerox copies of HendrickGoltzius’s late‑sixteenth‑century engravings. The glinting water, in reality, is a veined, institutional black‑and‑white linoleum floor, its modulated grays forming the “waves.” The linoleum’s graduated pattern functions conceptually like the greyscale data of bump‑ and displacement‑mapping techniques that would, in subsequent decades, give computer‑generated surfaces the semblance of relief.
