THE RED BROADWAY CRAWLER

(1985, 14:31’, SD video, stereo)

Thomas Bühler's crawl up Broadway took place on Sept. 27, 1985. After developing his "TOMBU CRAWLERS", he spent one year training for the event. Bühler, his body painted red, began the crawl from South Ferry at 7 a.m. and completed it at the Museum of the American Indian, 155th St. and Broadway at 2:10 p.m., covering a distance of approximately 12 miles. By coincidence, Hurricane Gloria struck New York City during these same hours, making it, until the very end, highly as the whether the event could be realized.
