Happy New Year from Rapperswil. Saltating oak leaves caught on my way to buy dough on Dec 31, 2023. Behind the wall lies the scented rose garden for the visually impaired. On Jan 01, 2024, arte.tv aired «Gone with the Wind…» Great joy in small things in 2024.

Intermezzo on Allen Street

Lower East Side, New York

Jan 15, 2023

Having just returned to New York and walking to my studio, I found this a very nice welcome back. Part 1 scored to generic «mood music», part 2 with 42nd Street & Broadway New York City traffic noises, both from 1960 78rpm records.

Occurrence on Allen Street

Feb 05, 2022

When I saw this, lodged next to a bench on Allen Street Walkway, I debated whether to bother for my camera in the knapsack (my cellphone in the hands of custom for clearance). I'm glad I did and was able to capture this accidental spectacle.

The Artist’s Studio as Encryption Lab - Allen Rock

Nov 01, 2020

This hewn rock originally appeared on Allen Street walkway several weeks ago. Sometimes, it stands upright, sometimes, it lies on the side.

Who dropped it here? Where does it come from? What purpose did it serve?

Around the same time, NASA’s Curiosity Mars rover has been drilling into a rock to collect samples that would be taken to earth. Back here on terrestrial Allen Street, I made a series of photographs of the rock and turned them into a photogrammetric 3d computer model, placed in the northwest corner of my studio and framed by two brick walls from the Mamaroneck railroad station. In my animation, the stone stands in a puddle formed by rain from tropical storm Ida. I found the picture of the shark in my archives, a texture I had used in a CGI entitled «Prehistory». The shredded pieces of canvas, signed Balthus, is a still from a video, documenting the press presentation of a newly discovered painting by Balthus, a girl playing Diablo, at the Musée Jenisch in Vevey in 2001. I happened to be present. The painting consequently appears in «Luminous Point» an interactive memory play staged in a 3D model of my tenement apartment. It stands on a chair in the backroom, facing a scale replica of the burning Hindenburg airship, a disaster that occurred on May 6, 1937, in Manchester Township, New Jersey.

Paul Hindemith’s «Kleine Kammermusik, op.24, no.2» is played by the L.A. Wind Quintet, from a 1941 shellac recording.
